How odd, that issues from way back then, are still so very relevant today:

Mercy Mercy Me (the Ecology) - 1971

Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Where did all the blue sky go?
Poison is the wind that blows
From the north, and south, and east
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Oil wasted on the oceans
and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
No, no
Radiation under ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who
live nearby are dying
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from
man can she stand?
My sweet Lord

Have we left the responsibility to handle and prevent such things in the wrong hands all this time?

Each of us personally has left a footprint from our choices. We were individuals. Our collective intelligence could have corrected all the damage done, but it is not in the interests of the corporate state to have intelligent subjects. Sure, there are ideas still for repair of the damage. Yet the nearly forty years hence was not unified in approach, several of the problems have become more serious. And the treasury is broke from waging wars, bonds and loans, doing the stuff we have not collectively chosen to attempt. Our rights were usurped.

Earth Day, 1970. Few minutes of silence; to imagine the wind across the water, the night on the other side. What will I do?

Is there some way of resolving moral questions under the rule of sola scriptura? Yes there is. The answer is by using sound exegetical practices where you look at the actual words in their original language, and you look at the immediate context of the verse or verses. Who was the author and who was he writing to. What is the historical context that could shed light on the situation going on when the passage was being written. What do other passages in the Bible that address the same subject have to say. If a passage seems obscure is there a passage that addresses the same subject that is more clear in it's meaning. You can still get different interpretations about prophetic or poetic passages. But the main and plain moral truths of the Bible are clear enough when you use proper exegesis. Does that mean that everyone will agree? No, because some people want the Scriptures to say what they want them to say and no matter how logical a presentation of what the Scriptures teach is given to them they will reject the truth because they don't want 'that truth' since it contradicts what they want to believe. People like that are not going to change their minds no matter who tells them they are incorrect. It doesn't matter if it's a local Pastor or the Pope. They know what they want to believe and they are not willing to believe something else.

The problem is with the democrats. They're so busy trying to figure out how to fix things without looking like socialists, too afraid of the Republican attacks, that they've been too afraid to do the right thing for 40 years. Since they stand for nothing, they can't gain control of the govt.

The Republicans are comparable to anarchists. No taxes, no govt., but oddly, they want a huge military paid for by the poor to protect the rich from the poor. The people are sheep.

Were you around in 1971? The Midwest was a disaster. Most of the fish in Lake Erie gone, Cuyahoga River burned, skies brown and the air just stank.

We've come a very long way.

Yes. Most people bought the platitudes that "It's not really that bad" and "All those environmentalists are just alarmists" and "The world isn't running out of oil." We sat back in our little cocoon of comfort and let it all go to heck.

I thought Marvin Gaye is dead.

It is very cute for you to think we can all not like pollution and it suddenly goes away.

We also have anti War songs, but that does not make wars all go away.

Because those who control everything won't let those things be fixed, it would cut into profits.
