Question:
How much better would our economic recovery be if the Republicans had helped, instead of hindered?

Republicans have filibustered every attempt the Democrats have made to fix our economy, including the jobs bill, help for small businesses, saying no to teachers, firefighters and police, trying to block UI payments, and most recently to blocking a bill to prevent our jobs from going overseas and bring more jobs home.

We also read that Wall Street is doing fine, and is sitting on millions, rather than hiring.

How much better off would the country be if they had cooperated instead of obstructing?

I suspect we would be a lot better off, with lower unemployment rates, and fewer people losing their homes and their jobs. We like to talk about all this stuff as if it doesn't matter, but there is real human suffering going on simply for politics. I never thought I would live to see the day that either party would vote against the things America needs most. It's disgraceful.

Perhaps you should first ask yourself, would those bills actually help the economy.

Companies are not hiring as much as they could because they are worried about some of these democratic proposals being passed.

UI doesnt help people get jobs and it doesnt help the economy.

think some of things through a bit more.

"@Social ID - ALL spending helps the economy, including spending your UI check. Think it through yourself."

Thats where your wrong. If all spending helped the economy then the companies who have had our tax dollars spent on them would be improving the economy but its not as you said yourself.

When consumer confidence is down people dont spend nearly as much. giving someone more unemployment doesnt improve consumer confidence. it just means they can wait longer to get a job. and it also means that more tax payer money ( yes thats the people who do have money ) know they will be taxed more for it.

It's hard to imagine , but they are clearly doing the will of multinational corporations with the huge trade imbalance . How much money is sucked out of the economy every day by using off shore accounts by businesses doing business here ?

Lets see.

Did the Dems address outsourcing? Nope. Then not possible to hinder them. Though to their credit they did make a feable attempt at a buy American program that was shot down by the Republicans.

Did Dems reduce H1 visa fraud? Nope over a million Americans are out of work because companies bring in Indian and Russian workers who'll do same work for half what an American wants/needs. These are high dollar engineering and IT jobs that are being stolen. Dems under Clinton actually made huge increases in H1 quotas. So not possible to hinder economic recovery.

Did Dems do anything about corruption? Nope they just changed the beneficiaries. Sometimes not even that. So again nothing to hinder.

Have Dems done anything to rid the nation of the 12-40 million illegals? Nope, if we just go trid of the illegals the unemployment problems in the US would go away. So would trillions spent on illegals. Thus the deficit would be instantly reduced as well. Instead the Dems want to legalize them creating 12-40 million NEW unemployed law suit happy American citizens. That's going to really help the economy. Laughably the Dems seem to think that amnesty will buy them votes. If these companies were going to hire Americans they would have already hired them. So when these amnesty illegals get laid off to hire new illegals and or sue the company out of business they will push unemployment to something like %20. That's going to help the economy how? Well unless your an ambulance chaser (a key funder and power in the DNC. )

Have Dems done anything to reduce taxes or help small biz? Nope they've not repealed the gas tax and instead have constantly talked about taxes that would rip the poor up into pieces. Especially cap and trade.

The jobs bill does nothing to bring jobs back to the US. Quite the opposite. You want to bring jobs back to America institute a Federal Buy American program, kill the income tax and all corporate and payroll taxes. Instead go with national sales tax. Put the EPA back on track. Can OSHA and rebuild it from scratch hiring people from the industries they are evaluating rather than stuffed shirts with lots of degrees and zero common sense. It is not only possible but desirable to create an environment which favors both worker and employer. There doesn't have to be animosity between them. That is an invention of the Dems/Republicans and serves no useful purpose. The Dems just to prove they want to see no economic recovery shoved Obamacare down our throats. That bill will cripple American industry and will jail tens of thousands who make too much to be exempt and too little to buy health insurance. It will increase homeless rates and drive up the costs of health care dramatically. Most of all it's going to cost jobs, lots of htem. The Dems are already giving out exemptions like candy to major companies. If you wanted any proof they were as owned as the Republicans you need look no farther than the way they cater to big biz with Obamacare exemptions.

Wall street is running on imaginary money and is mostly living and dying on fictional wealth. A few of the very wealthy will tap out at the right time but over and over again the common people get bent over and take it deep. The next stock crash which is overdue will end all optimism for a recovery.

The Obama admin like the Bush jr and Clinton administrations is overjoyed to report that we added min wage jobs while losing thousands of high skilled high paid jobs. Thrilled to ignore the fact we are treading on one bubble after another until we finally take the bi fall. We are already at Great depression levels in many areas and in some areas the nation has never seen it worse in our history. Yet Obama and the Dems have the gall to call this a recovery?

I'm not convinced that the Republicans tried to block these measures as much as other things that may have been packaged with these bills.

Republicans are the only thing keeping Obama and the Socialistocrats from completing their takeover and the destruction of the our constitution. Judgement day is coming in November, when the pendulum starts to swing back the other way.

The Democrats have the White House, the Senate, the House and they have the 60 vote majority required to pass anything they choose and yet you make such a claim. Liberalism is truly, truly a mental disorder.

a better question would be: How much better would our economic recovery be if the POLITICIANS hadn't done anything, instead of hindering the recovery?

a recession is the market's response to malinvestment - it needs to happen - the sooner the better.

They blocked bad bills. To say that the Republicans only are at fault well:

As the great congressman from the state of SC once said during the State of the Union address: ""You Lie".

don't go there.democrats could of passed anything until kennedy died.obama bailed out wall street.the union jobs obama protected was to pay them back for his campaign in 2008 which totaled 145 million.then bailed them out just so they had americas tax dollars to use as their own piggy bank.you need to wake up.
