Well, considering the statistical fact that something along the lines of 6% of those in active service consider themselves 'liberal' and only about 15% consider themselves 'democrat' (think 'union' democrat, not hippie democrat) they don't have much of a choice. When they find a democrat with actual military service they trot him out there like the golden calf in a figurative, "See! See! We're for the military." So often it's easier and cheaper to pedal fools gold when the real thing is so rare.

Yes, the true Americans like Cheney and Rush who both had deferments will never be accused of being Phony War Heroes

You say "keep electing phony war heroes," which indicates that it is a pattern. However, while Harkin did lie about his service record, it was made quite clear that Kerry did not.
Or maybe you're saying that Max Cleland actually removed his own arm and legs.

Kerry and Murtha are legitimate war heroes.
Republicans are just as bad at electing phony war heroes.

Would it be fair to ask why Republicans keep electing phony heterosexuals like Craig and DeLay? I think not.
Besides the obvious argument that such arguments are based on dishonestly biased syllogisms, they are simply foolish. Neither Republicans nor Democrats elect anybody. The nominate candidates, but we citizens elect them collectively. I sure get tired of the way both parties assume that you must be one or the other.
Half of us are independent in mind and ballot. We are the ones you have to convince, and you won't do that with lame insinuations about your opponents. You have to earn our votes more honourably than that.

I don't know about you or anybody else out there for that matter. But I do know that I'm very tired of talking about this and other forms of politics. We talk talk talk, type type type and what the f*ck ever changes about any of it...anything?
Stop talking and start doing something that can really make a change.

The skeletons are coming out of the liberal closet by the tons.

Harkin should be the focus of the media/left for his lies about his service. Harkin and President GWB military service was about the same except Harkin lied about his and GWB did not.

Greetings. same reason that republicans are running McCane on the presidental route. even though he was shot down while committing a war crime by bombing a civilian target when he was brought down. he is featured as another war hero. people are stupid mainly. think a killer is a great thing for a leader to be.
