The reason I ask is that the President keeps saying "Fake News" is the enemy of the people, but for some reason Liberals hear that and respond saying the Press is not the enemy of the people.
That must mean they believe the Press = Fake News, right?

When you have a continuing cabal of JournoList reporters conspiring to advance a liberal agenda a person has to conclude that a lot of the media is slanted and presenting only one perspective. That indeed is fake. LOL 350 newspapers whining about the "free press" proves the point. LOL

Trump maps the term "fake news" to the sources of truth that expose his lies, corruption, and incompetence (e.g. The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, MSNBC).
The term "fake news" originally referred (before the president repurposed it to dilute its real meaning) to the deception of Russian troll farm operations disseminating bogus news via the internet and fake news sites that are easily, cheaply coded in hypertext markup language.

Trump says all press critical of him is fake news when the press is supposed to be critical of the president.

Fake News is the enemy of the people, however the legitimate facts that Trump often calls fake news are actually people presenting things that make him look bad or that disagree with his politics.

Unfortunately, liberals believe anything bad about Trump. This allows news outlets and papers carte blanche on liberal spin. Propaganda as well as outright lies are believable to liberals. Fake news isn't fake to liberals because it's believed. When Trump calls the reporters out for delivering nasty propaganda, liberal newscasters take the insults personally and the debate becomes about Trump's civility, not the lies in the news. There are no retractions just more lies and vile innuendo. There is no attempt to undo damages fake news creates. Past presidents never called the media out for it's lies it made them look weak. Trump was elected because we knew he would fight back. Just look at the inane comparisons to Hitler. It lowers the democrat's arguments into absurdity yet they continue to roll in the mud.
When Congressman Joe Wilson called out "you lie"" during Obama's state of the union address. Obama was lying. However, not a single news station sought out to uncover if Obama did, in fact, lie. 100% of the coverage was about being rude to Obama. The news outlets are using the same tactic with Trump. Joe Wilson was made to apologize for telling the truth. The media is going nuts because Trump won't apologize for telling the truth. ~ Go Figure ~

hey..... wasn't the point of most of Orwell's most famous works a warning about how tyrannies begin with control over the meanings of words?

No. We are asking all Americans to learn how to tell the difference between facts and fake. Be smart enough to learn how to fact-check. Study up so you can discern who is lying to you.
If more people had done this, we would not have Trump for president.

HELL NO ... It means that Trump wants his minion to believe that the MSM (other than FOX News of course) is Fake News.
When Trump gets behind a microphone and points to all the MSM cameras and reporters there to report on his rally (and identifies some of them by name such as CNN and the NY Times) and calls them the Fake News, he's making the effort to convince his minion that those reporting the truth about him are actually making things up to make him look bad.
Unfortunately, his loyal followers have been so brainwashed that they are unable to discern fact from his lies. So they invariably take the erroneous position that everything which isn't conservative media is liberal media and, therefore, a source of fake reporting. And so, his gullible stooges regularly suck up his BS as truth.
