after the whole stock market deal... our government 'rescued' all those insurance companies.. and they own like 80% of the insurance company..
obviously they dont own all companies.. but couldnt this be leading down the road to socialism where the government owns some of the companies and doesnt own some but we still have capitolism..?
i heard this being talked about and i was wondering if i could get an opinion..

Socialism is defined as the ownership of the resources and means of production by the government.

Socialism is not defined as the government investing in capitalist corporations.

Big difference.

The problem with political theory, is that many types of government overlap. Lots of people think that Social Security and Medicare are socialist, but they have been widely accepted for years.

The big question now is how much control the government will exert on the companies it now has equity in. If Washington starts dictating policy at the banks as to their daily operations, than an actual, very scary type of socialism has arrived. The government could decide who and who did not get a loan and basically control the economy.

I find this amusing. Nixon was a hard core republican, but everything in this country has shifted so far right after Reagan, that Obama (a Democrat) makes Nixon look like a pansy pink-o commy. Think about that whenever someone uses the word liberal.

Obama and his cronies support a socialist agenda; they want us to be dependent on the government and less dependent on ourselves. If Obama makes it to the White House, the government will control your life and there won't be a darn thing you can do about it. There is already an attempt to restrict free speech (good-bye first amendment); and check Obama's voting record on his push to restrict our right to bear arms (good-bye second amendment). That's the beginnings of a socialist agenda.

Is it any wonder the terrorists like Hamas, and dictators of the world, support him ?

yes, this is exactly how socialism works. my advice would be either quit your job and live off a sweet check from the government. or move to a different country and live the "american dream" there.

im moving.

country has gone to hell in a hand basket.

Well, the Neocons have been railing about this for days if not weeks. Most people think its just Right wing melodrama based on McCain's poor showing to date.
