Quebec was the part of Canada. Quebec people wanted autonomous state and they went to referendum. but, people said no for autonomous state. because, Canada is rich country and if Quebec is separated from Canada, Quebec people would be poor

Quincee33: is your answer a joke ?

"Quebec separation has been a political idea from the 70's." Québec separation has been a political idea from 1767 on when the English army took forceful control of the french colony. See also "patriots 1837".

"Rene Levesque i beleive was mayor of Quebec City". René Lévesque has never been mayor of Québec City. He was a journalist and war correspondant before becoming Prime Minister of the province of Québec.

"he was leader of the FLQ which was a militant separatist party in the 70's...." René Lévesque has never been an FLQ member. The FLQ was not a political party, it was a small group of a dozen people who committed terrorists acts and were imprisoned accordingly (the hostage taking).

Pierre Eliott Trudeau was indeed Prime Minister of Canada. He did not "denounce" the separatists, he opposed them as a federalist when the province held a referendum on independance, even though he hailed from Québec (french ascent but raised and educated in english).

"...i'm not the best person to give you answers". For that one you couldn't tell any better !

"Bloc rose again with more power in the late 80's - 90's." The Bloc Québécois never "rose again". It was founded in 1991 with the goal of having representatives from Québec speak with a single voice to take care of Quebec's interests within the federal government.

They were part of Brian Mulroney's government as sitting conservatives

And then they formed their own little party -- the bloc - a federal level representation with a rough Provincial equivalent of the PQ

The bloc does not exist as a separatist party as such --- that is a lie told by the current PM who just crawled out from under the Queen's skirt

The Bloc exists to represent Quebec only --- they only run candidates in Quebec -- they fight for things like the QPP payments and so on

Here is you're die hard separatist in conversation with Trudeau --

Duceppe and Bouchard do not want to separate from Canada -- no no they want to represent Quebec for the good of Quebec Leaving the nation will be the death of them -- they know this -- The Bloc wants their cake and to eat it to --- as a result the Quebec people win - they consider that a win -- and they consider it a job well done which is why the people keep voting for the Bloc

Yahoo Answers is not your best source. You may get biased answers. Quebec separation has been a political idea from the 70's. Rene Levesque i beleive was mayor of Quebec City back then, mayb have been 60's....he was leader of the FLQ which was a militant separatist party in the 70's....pierre trudeau was prime minister (liberal party) who deneounced french separatists. they even had hostage taking in 72' or 73' ...i'm not the best person to give you answers but basically the Bloc rose again with more power in the late 80's - 90's.

just google it, and you'll find what you're lookin' for.
