176,000 jobs added in August

A step in the right direction? Continuing the trend of positive job growth. Some modestly good news. Could have been worse.

But not enough to reduce unemployment (at least not for the right reasons, i.e. people leaving the workforce). U-3 went down, but U-6 went up...

Not enough to indicate a robust job market. The effect on wages was minimal. And many of the jobs are low paying.

All in all, a mixed bag at best, perhaps even disappointing.

I'll leave it up to others to rant about who's "fault" the jobs numbers are... for me, it is what it is...

Department of Labor weekly press release of 9/5/2013 reported the number of Initial Claims for unemployment benefits for the WEEK ending Aug 31 was 323,000. The 4 week moving average of Initial Claims was 328,550.

So, 176,000 people found a Job and 1,314,000 people lost a Job.

Not acceptable!!!!

LEGAL immigration is around 2 million per year

And unemployment is still over 7%

176,000/month is not enough

I say I feel like Garrett Morris in that old Saturday Night Live skit about a black nationalist criticizing The Rolling Stones' "Some Girls."

In the song Mick Jagger sings about black women liking a lot of sex and the sex-deprived Garret Morris asks, "Mr. Jagger, just where ARE these black girls?"

So every time I hear a Democratic or Republican shill talking about the economy, I ask, "Mr. Obama/Bush/whoever.... just where ARE these non-minimum wage jobs?"

They may be talking about legal immigration. We've never had a problem with that. I guarantee you illegal immigration has not stopped.

Its good. the only down side is consumer spending is stuck...because wages are stuck. tax cuts won't matter this time around. raise the min. wage! good for growth and good for the economy!
